In an unexpected statement during an interview on MSNBC, Former Democratic President Jimmy Carter (in office 1977-1981) stated that he would be "comfortable" with Republican candidate Mitt Romney becoming President. The former Commander in Chief complimented Romney's efforts as a progressive and moderate, and he even went further to call Romney a "good, solid family man." With President Barack Obama's campaign attempting to shift their aim and focus from Romney's flip-flopping to Romney being a "right-winged nut" in their political advertisements, Carter's commentary was detrimental, as it painted the Republican candidate as a solid moderate. With the former Democratic President's blessing, it could be possible that some Democrats, that are tired of waiting for Obama's change to come and are less than enthusiastic about the incumbent, will give Mitt Romney a second look.
