We all know Seagate for the fact that it is one of the giants of the technology industry, specifically in hard drives and storage devices. Well, Seagate has decided to become more of a giant today, buying fellow data storage company, LaCie Corporation for $186,000,000. Seagate states that short-term effects of this deal will not look like much, but overtime, they are hoping to have a monopoly in Europe and Japan over overall consumer and enterprise data storage. LaCie Corporation, a Paris, France corporation, had the monopoly over enterprise storage in Europe. With this purchase, Seagate should see massive growth between now and 2015.
