Burger King, the second largest fast food chain in the United States, has announced that its goal is to shift its production of eggs and pork to cage-free chickens and pigs by 2017. Of course, change cannot happen overnight, but applaud Burger King. They are attempting to treat the animals, they slaughter and steal from, better. All jokes aside, Burger King is trying to appeal to a crowd of fast food customers that are looking for animals to receive more humane living conditions. It is honestly amazing that animal welfare is on the minds of the modern fast food chains today. Currently, 9% of Burger King's eggs and 20% of Burger King's pork is cage-free and are living and growing happily. The question many have is how much will this cost Burger King? According to some studies, raising cage free hens and chickens may add an extra 1 cent to each egg. I know that does not sound like much, but think about the fact that Burger King uses millions of eggs a year. That could be a possible excuse to use on the public for them to squeal out of their promise. We all will hope that Burger King will keep to their word, but then again, business is business.
